Do I need any pottery experience to join a workshop?
Not at all. Every workshop is designed with absolute beginners in mind. Ruth is a trained teacher and will guide you step by step through the process — you just need to bring yourself and a willingness to get a little muddy.
How long does a workshop run?
Each Sunday workshop runs for approximately 2–3 hours in the afternoon at the Strawhouse Wines tasting room.
Where are the workshops held?
All public workshops are held at Strawhouse Wines Cellar Door in Orange, NSW — a beautiful setting in the heart of the Central West wine region. Easy to combine with a wine tasting or a weekend visit to Orange.
What should I wear?
Wear whatever you want wear. Bring an apron if you're worried about getting clay on your clothes, but generally hand-building isn't too messy.
Is everything provided?
Yes. All clay, tools, materials, grazing plate and glass of wine are included in your ticket — just turn up.
When will I get my finished piece?
After your workshop, Ruth takes your work back to the studio to dry, glaze and fire it. This process takes around 4–6 weeks. You can collect your finished piece from Ruth's studio in Orange or arrange to have it posted to you.

Orange is roughly a 3.5–4 hour drive from Sydney and around 3 hours from Canberra. Many visitors make a weekend of it — pairing a workshop with cellar door visits, restaurants and accommodation in the Orange wine region.
